It takes effort to for all of us to change. What do we most want to change in our life? Of course, it is up to you to decide what kind of life you want to live. If success in our career and personal life is in our priority list, then develop a proper personal development plan (PDP) is the answer to the question.
- Make a list of what you can do to start the process. Try journaling, perhaps. Read books. Take a course. Find a mentor. Seek out support.
- Make a list of resources that will be helpful to making those changes. This list can include books, audio tapes or CD’s, web sites, software, online courses.
- Schedule a specific amount of time each day to using those resources in pursuit of your personal development growth plan.
- Take notes or reflect on what you have learned
- Take action steps to move forward. Usually a good personal development book or course will have action steps included but if not, make up your own.
- Celebrate your success with a reward worthy of your efforts.
- Repeat until you experience the success you desire.
Some other considerations to note.
- Having a list of goals (which I have put up in my earlier post like once upon a time in goal setting and Goal setting - Back to Basic) will help you pinpoint what you want in your personal development growth plan. If you want to growth rich, look for books like Think and Growth Rich.
- Track the progress (I have developed one for myself, you may want to download here)
- It is always important to get a partner or mentor, whom will act as counter checker as well as support you.
- Start with something simple and attainable to build up the momentum and courage.
Success does not come free, consistent pursuit is the secret of this game.
“Be not afraid of changing slowly; be afraid only of standing still.”
